We’re here, and we’re ready to kick off the fall in style here at The Magnetic Field! Read on for new shows, tipples, dinner, and even seating!

KERFUFFLE!
This weekend only we’ll be presenting a one-man show Kerfuffle, by the marvelously talented Holiday Childress. Lead-singer of legendary local band The Goodies, Childress has been one of the most recognizable faces and personalities of the Asheville music scene for the past fifteen years, and now you can see his new solo-performance. Don’t wait--there will be three shows only, Thursday - Saturday at 8:00 nightly, and tickets are already going quickly. Click here to purchase tickets now! http://www.themagneticfield.com/events

SHANGRI-LA

Our next world-premiere will be Shangri-La, a new comedy by Lucia Del Vecchio (author of The Family Tree) set in a retirement trailer park in Largo, Florida. Seventy never looked so young as the characters struggle with dating, nosy neighbors, possibly objectionable attire, and one giant under the sea mixer that might just bring them all together. The show will open on September 17th, and run Thursday - Saturday evenings, with special 4:00 p.m. Saturday matinees as well. Trust us--you don’t want to miss this one!

And check out the writeup in Verve Magazine!

NEW SEATING, MENU
We’re also doing a little remodeling in the cafe, to make you experience even better. By this weekend our new seating should be ready, so come on in and check it out. And you can also try the new Seasonal Bowl (with butternut squash ravioli), the Duck Cassoulet, or several of the other new menu items that Chef Liam and Chef Jason have come up with of late. And, if you haven’t been by since we debuted the new cocktail list, then there’s really no excuse for not coming over soon. Like tonight.

COMEDY
Lots of great comedy will be onstage soon--the first Token Comedy Showcase will be tonight (replete with your Token Asian Comic, Token Black Comic, Token Indian Comic, Token Gay Comic, and many more!), touring comedian Chelcie Rice will come through on the 20th, and our improv troupe Reasonably Priced Babies will do their thing on the 27th. POETRY & STORY SLAMS
The Synergy Story Slam is back! After becoming a huge hit over the course of the spring, the Synergy Story Slam (to the disappointment of many) took the summer off but their back, the first and third Mondays of the month, as usual. In addition, The Magnetic Field is now the home base for Poetry Slam Asheville and their events will be on the second and fourth Mondays. Check the calendar for details on each individual show!

MAGNETIC MUSIC: PILGRIM
Pilgrim, formed by Jaye Bartell in Buffalo, N.Y., in 2008, started by blending field recordings with simple, spare tunes that emphasized vocal melody and lyrical content. A typical performance included guitar and voice accompanied by a portable turntable that played recordings of bird songs, ocean waves, wind and other "environment" sounds at half speed.

They have two albums available, but the majority of Pilgrim's material has not been recorded, and their sound grows and develops continually. If you don't see this band perform, it doesn't exist.

September 21 and 28 at 8:00 p.m.

COMING UP

And there’s so much more in store this fall! Magnetic Midnight is back. Synergy Story Slams, poetry slams. The crazed and infamous play Rock Saber will be making its long-awaited debut in October, our first annual spotlight on new writers, Brief Encounters will premiere just after that, and before you know it it’ll be time for The 28th Annual Bernstein Family Christmas Spectacular: Christmas in Space, In 3-D! See you soon!
